THE PHILLIPS-MOORE CONCEPT

Born from an idea ahead of its time.

In 1984, Barry and Anne Phillips-Moore filed a patent application for a radically different approach to tennis racket design.

Instead of following conventional dense string patterns, the Phillips-Moore concept was built around three principles:

ULTRA-OPEN STRING PATTERN
Larger spaces between the strings allow the ball to penetrate deeper into the string bed.

HIGH-CALIBER STRINGS
Thicker strings are engineered to handle the increased movement and forces created by the open pattern.

HIGHER STRING TENSION
The open string bed can be combined with higher tension to balance power, response and control.

The result is a distinctive playing concept designed around:

DEEPER POCKETING
More ball penetration into the string bed.

MORE SPIN & BITE
Greater interaction between the ball and strings helps the player generate spin.

POWER WITH CONTROL
The open string bed provides powerful response, while higher tension can deliver a firmer, more controlled feel.

A DIFFERENT CONNECTION TO THE BALL
More string-bed deformation creates the distinctive pocketing and response at the heart of the Phillips-Moore philosophy.

From the pioneering Phillips-Moore concepts of the 1980s to today's ultra-open 12 × 12, 12 x 13 design, the philosophy remains:

OPEN THE PATTERN.
INCREASE THE POCKETING.
LET THE STRINGS WORK.
